About the Artist

Shelly Owen is a Mississippi-based painter whose work centers on the emotional resonance of nature. After years in the world of graphic design, she returned to painting as a way back to herself — not only as a creative practice, but as a form of healing and release. Drawn to animals, florals, landscapes, and the fleeting quality of light, she translates memory, atmosphere, and feeling into paintings that hold both beauty and emotional weight.
Working primarily in acrylics while also exploring oils, watercolor, and mixed media, Owen creates layered compositions shaped by expressive brushwork, bold color, and a sensitivity to the tension between softness and intensity, stillness and movement, holding on and letting go. Her paintings feel like small meditations — intimate invitations to pause, breathe, and find refuge in the quiet power of the natural world.
Owen’s work has been exhibited internationally through Winsor & Newton’s Air Mail Online Exhibit and at their physical gallery in London, England, as well as locally at The Malkin Gallery in Greenville, Mississippi, and The Patton House & Gallery in Jackson, Mississippi. She has also been featured in four international publications.
